2011 Saturday, October 29 Swarthmore College Lang Concert Hall Lacy will be performing with Tim Daoust this year in the Swarthmore College Student and Alumni Composers Concert. The program so far includes works by alumni P.D.Q. Bach/Peter Schickele, Mark Alburger, Lacy James, Lisa Wildman, David Barnes, James Matheson, Elizabeth Hoffman, Sophia Uddin, Gabriel Riccio, Becky Wright, Leland Kusmer and Myles Dakan, and by current students Ben Kapilow, Alejandro Sills, and Niels Verosky. Performers include alumni Mark Alburger, Deborah H. How, Emily Aubrey, Jim Moskowitz, Lisa Wildman, Lacy James (with Tim Daoust), David Barnes, Sam Lorber, Becky Wright, Sophia Uddin, Gabriel Riccio and Leland Kusmer;and current students Ben Kapilow, Alejandro Sills, Shreyas Ravi, and Joyce Han. Sunday and Monday, September 4 and 5 We the People Mereminne Dancers present We the People in historic Washington Square park as part of the 2011 Philly Fringe Festival. These performances are free and open to the public, and no tickets are necessary. However if you would like to help offset our expenses, we are gratefully receiving donations through the ticketing feature on our Philly Fringe show page ($5 suggested per showing). Wednesday, August 3rd Lacy James with Tim Daoust - Bar 82 NYC Lacy James and Tim Daoust will be the featured act this week after Bar 82's open mic, playing a 40 minute set of songs from Lacy's debut CD Lovefeast along with a few other surprises. Planning on a rockin' mix of acoustic and electric/electronic tunes, we'll see what happens. It's a great little bar in the East Village so come on out! No cover.
Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16 Re:Vision Series The Tank Lacy James/Mereminne Dancers will be part of a shared program featuring interdisciplinary work by artists incorporating live mix video, film, dance, spoken word, puppetry, and/or music. Saturday, April 2 Free "All-Terrain" Showings Day! Philadelphia, PA (various locations) This will be our first day taking the new dance to the streets. We'll be moving from place to place and performing several times throughout the afternoon, as we experiment in various locations around Philadelphia's Center City area. Locations will be outdoors if weather permits. There will probably be some audience participation options, should you be so inclined :) These showings are free and open to the public. the UNC-Greensboro Dance Department Theater An evening of dance and music reflecting environmental and existential themes, with choreography by Lacy James and in collaboration with the dancers. Features the premiere of a large group work, disSolve subMerge that weaves together layered manipulations of movement phrases, recorded texts and other audio to create a dreamlike sequence of events set to Steve Reich's 1965 voice manipulation It’s Gonna Rain, Part II, additional sound scores by James, and live spoken word. Also on the program will be Birdsong Sketches, set to the Petites esquisses d'oiseaux (Little Bird Studies) of Olivier Messiaen, and Oracle, a women’s quintet set to an electronic sound score by James. Performing Arts Center, Swarthmore
College Mereminne Dancers perform Birdsong Sketches, a work-in-progress developed in a residency at Swarthmore College this past summer. The piece is set to Olivier Messiaen's Petites Esquisses d'Oiseaux and will be danced by Michaela Bosshard, Lacy James, Kumiko Nasu and guest artists Susan Haines and Bradley Parquette. The program will also include Aftermath, a duet excerpted from the evening-length work Performing the Subject choreographed and danced by Susan Haines and Bradley Parquette. The showing will take place in the Troy Dance Lab in the Lang Performing Arts Center, and will be followed by a discussion period. Admission is free. Dance Festival Mereminne Dancers has been invited to perform in the first annual International Dance Festival of NYC. Performances and workshops will be held in the historic St. Clements Theatre, an off-Broadway theater located in Midtown Manhattan. We will be performing a 1/2 bill including Sea Changes, Desert Errata, trinity and "Silverback". The July 26 program will also feature Janet Reed & Dancers and Synthesis Dance Project, both jazz-based groups; on Sunday July 28 we will share a program with ASE Dance Theatre Collective and Andrew Marcus Performance, a contact improvisation company.
